How It Started
Al-Yarmouk is the brainchild of Ruba Alajlouni and Ahmad Athamneh. Both saw the suffering of animals in Jordan and decided to do something about it — not as a one-time gesture, but as a lasting force for change.
Our Approach
From the start, Ruba and Ahmad recognized something important: the way to improve animal welfare in Jordan is by lifting up people. Whether it’s training a young vet, creating a job, or sharing knowledge, empowering communities is the only real path to sustainable solutions for the animals who live alongside them.
Building on Solid Ground
Sustainability starts with a solid legal foundation. Given how things work in Jordan, we began by setting up Bridges of Trust Corporation, a U.S.-based 501(c)(3), to give the work long-term stability and good governance. We then set out to create a Jordanian counterpart, and after a lot of back and forth, we chose a non-profit business structure — Al-Yarmouk.
Today, the two organizations work closely together to end the suffering of stray dogs in Jordan.
Al-Yarmouk
Al-Yarmouk is a local non-profit based in Irbid, in northern Jordan, and registered with the Ministry of Industry and Trade. Al-Yarmouk is committed to ending the problem of stray dogs in the country.
Bridges of Trust Corporation
Bridges of Trust is a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit in the United States, with a mission that reaches well beyond Al-Yarmouk’s: bringing people from different political, cultural, and economic backgrounds together around a shared goal — protecting animals and wildlife. Peace and political stability are, in the end, what make sustainability possible.
We’re looking to build partnerships with people all over the world, regardless of religion, ethnicity, political affiliation, or country of origin. If you love animals, you’re our friend.
